Quick and Easy High Chair Reupholstering

If you have a high chair that’s seen better days, reupholstering it can give it a new lease on life. Our high chair gets a lot of use and was really torn up, so I decided to tackle the project using materials I already had at home. Here’s how I did it, and why I recommend using what you have for a quick and easy fix.

Materials Needed:

  • A piece of thicker fabric (I used some material I had on hand)
  • Scissors
  • Staple gun or strong adhesive
  • Screwdriver (if necessary to disassemble parts of the chair)

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Remove the Old Upholstery:
Start by carefully removing the old fabric from the high chair. Depending on your chair, this might involve unscrewing some parts or just pulling off the fabric. Take note of how the old fabric was attached, as this will guide you in placing the new fabric.
  2. Measure and Cut the New Fabric:
Measure the pieces of the old fabric to determine the size of the new pieces. Add a bit of extra fabric to each measurement to allow for folding and securing the fabric.
  3. Attach the New Fabric:
Lay the new fabric over the high chair, ensuring it covers all necessary areas. Use a staple gun or strong adhesive to attach the fabric securely. If you’re using a staple gun, start in the center and work your way out to avoid wrinkles.
  4. Reassemble the High Chair:
If you had to disassemble parts of the high chair, reassemble them carefully. Make sure everything is securely in place and that the fabric is tight and smooth.
  5. Finishing Touches:
Trim any excess fabric and make sure all edges are neat. Give the high chair a final once-over to ensure everything is securely attached and looks good.

Tips and Recommendations:

  • Use What You Have: I used a piece of thicker material I already had at home, which made the project quick and cost-effective. Look around your home for suitable fabric before buying anything new.
  • Choose Durable Fabric: Since high chairs get a lot of use, opting for thicker, more durable fabric will help it last longer.
  • Take Your Time: Even though this project can be quick, taking the time to ensure each step is done carefully will result in a more polished final product.

Reupholstering your high chair is a straightforward DIY project that can make a big difference. Not only does it refresh the look of the chair, but it also extends its life. So, the next time your high chair starts looking a bit worn out, consider giving it a new look with some fabric you already have at home. Happy crafting!
