DIY Christmas & Winter String Art

A Two-in-One Seasonal Decoration

This holiday season, I decided to upcycle some small blocks of junk wood into a versatile piece of decor that can transition seamlessly from Christmas to winter. Using simple materials, I created a festive design on one side and a cozy winter scene on the other. The result? A fun and crafty way to celebrate both the holiday spirit and the quiet beauty of winter, all in one project!

Materials You’ll Need:

• Three small blocks of junk wood

• Nails

• String (white and green for Christmas, white and black for winter)

• Red and brown paint

• White paint for snow details

• Hammer

• Patience and a little creativity!

Step 1: Christmas Side

For the Christmas theme, I chose a simple, classic design: the word “joy” in the center block, with two Christmas trees on the blocks to the left and right. First, I painted the wood blocks a rich, festive red to set the holiday mood. Then, using small nails and green string, I outlined two Christmas trees on either side. For the “joy” in the middle, I used white string to contrast against the red background, giving it a bright, cheerful look.

Step 2: Winter Flip Side

Once Christmas is over, you can flip the blocks over to reveal the winter theme. For this side, I wanted something that felt cozy and serene, so I painted the blocks a warm brown to create a rustic, wintery vibe. In the center, I strung the word “snow” in white string. On either side, I used nails and string to create a simple, snowy birch tree scene. To finish off both sides, I painted small white dots to look like falling snow, adding a charming wintry touch.

Step 3: Display and Enjoy!

What I love most about this project is that it’s two decorations in one. You can display the Christmas side all through December, then simply flip the blocks after the holidays to enjoy a lovely winter scene that feels just right for the colder months.

This two-sided string art project is perfect for anyone who loves seasonal decor but wants to minimize storage space. Plus, it’s a great way to upcycle old wood into something beautiful and festive. Give it a try this holiday season, and you’ll have a versatile decoration to enjoy all winter long!
