– A Fun Adventure in Layers

Have you ever looked at your hair in the mirror, considered the hassle of booking an appointment, and thought, “I could just do this myself”? If so, you’re not alone! While I’m no professional, I usually get the job done—and I’m pretty happy with the results. Here’s a step-by-step look at my DIY process for creating long layers with face-framing bangs.
And here’s my go to scissors 👇
1. Start with the Ponytail Method (But Make it Three!)

The ponytail method is my go-to for quick layering. Instead of just one ponytail, this time, I divided my hair into three ponytails—one for the back and two for the sides. By bringing each section to the front, I can more easily see what I’m cutting and control the lengths around my face.
• Back Ponytail: This one is mainly for the overall length.
• Side Ponytails: I bring each side to the front, which helps with face-framing layers and bangs.

Once I had all three ponytails in place, I cut each one to the desired length. This is where it can get tricky because the result is usually a little choppy.
2. Trim, Blend, and Shape

With the bulk of the cutting done, my next focus was blending. Since the ponytail method tends to leave blunt edges, I just kept trimming little by little until the layers came together more naturally. I concentrated on the sections around my face, blending my bangs into the longer layers so everything flows.

3. Style and Enjoy the Waves

After all the blending, I styled my hair to see how the layers would look in their final form. Seeing all the waves come together after styling was the best part! Somehow, it just worked—my hair felt lighter, bouncier, and had that layered, effortless vibe I love.

Final Thoughts
Would I recommend this method? If you’re adventurous and not too concerned about a little trial and error, it’s fun to try! It takes patience, a careful eye, and some willingness to adjust until you’re happy with the outcome. I may not always know what I’m doing, but the result usually surprises me in a good way.
