Embracing ‘Less is More’ in Home Decor

Creating custom string art is such a fun and meaningful way to add a personal touch to your home decor! Recently, I tackled a project that my husband and I had both been excited about: a string art piece with the phrase “less is more”—a concept that resonates with him. Here’s a step-by-step look at how I made it and how it turned out!
Inspiration and Materials
We first saw this idea on Pinterest, where the phrase “less is more” was featured in a minimalist design. I decided to go with string art to add texture and a handmade feel. Here’s what I used:
• A large, flat junk board as the base
• White paint to give the board a clean, modern background
• Nails and string in a simple, minimal color to keep with the theme
• Hook and hanging kit (I’ll link my favorite one below)
Steps to Create the Look

1. Prep the Board: I painted the board white, which brought out a clean, open vibe—perfect for a minimalistic look.

2. Design the Text: Instead of covering the whole board, I decided to place the text in the corner in a clean, “less-is-more” font. This way, the negative space around the design complements the message itself.

3. Add the Nails and String: I placed nails around the outline of each letter, spacing them evenly to keep it clean. Then I used a simple, neutral-colored string to fill in each letter, being careful not to make it too dense. The open, airy design matched the phrase perfectly.

4. Finishing Touches: After the string art was complete, I added a hook to the back so it would be easy to hang. Here’s my favorite hanging hook kit👇
that makes hanging heavy or large pieces a breeze.
The Result

I’m thrilled with how it turned out! The phrase “less is more” really stands out against the white background in a way that feels both stylish and personal. It’s now a subtle statement piece in our home that keeps us inspired and reminds us of the value of simplicity.
Whether you’re new to string art or a seasoned pro, I highly recommend giving something like this a try! Let me know if you create one—I’d love to see how it turns out.
