I had a pile of old junk wood sitting around—random cutoffs, scraps from other projects, just odds and ends that were too rough to throw away but not polished enough to do much with… until now! I decided to challenge myself and turn those forgotten pieces into something beautiful, and it turned into 8 unique homemade decor items that I’m super proud of.
Out of the 8, 5 turned into wall hangings, and 2 were chunkier block pieces—perfect for tabletop displays or shelves. I also had a stack of pretty floral pictures I had printed out a while ago just sitting in a drawer. I didn’t want them to go to waste, so I measured and cut the junk wood to fit them just right.

Once everything was cut I used Mod Podge to apply the floral prints. It’s such a simple process but gives the pieces a really finished look.

One tip: sometimes Mod Podge can discolor paper or give it a slightly cloudy look. A few of the pieces didn’t look exactly how I wanted once they dried, so I went back in and touched up certain areas with paint—especially around the edges or over lighter parts of the prints. It made a huge difference and gave them more of a handcrafted, artistic vibe. So if you try this and something doesn’t look quite right, don’t be afraid to paint over parts once it’s dry! It’s a great way to save a piece you’re not quite in love with yet.

In the end, each piece had its own charm. The combination of rough wood, floral prints, and a little creative rescue turned these scraps into something I’d proudly hang up or style on a shelf.

If you’ve got leftover prints or random wood scraps lying around, give this a shot! It’s such a satisfying way to use what you have and create something new. Plus—free decor? Yes, please.
