Sometimes the best ideas come from the scrap pile! This week, I spotted a few random pieces of wood in my junk wood pile—two small squares and one little rectangle—and instantly got inspired to turn them into something cute and functional.
I decided to make a little set of wall hooks!
Painting and Stenciling the Wood

For the two square pieces, I started by giving them a coat of white paint. Once they dried, I penciled in a floral stencil design and then went over it carefully with black paint. The contrast of the black on white gives them such a clean, bold, and slightly rustic look.
The rectangle piece I left a bit more natural, I added just a few little decorative flourishes in the corners and a tiny floral accent right where the hook would go. It ties the three pieces together while still giving each its own charm.
Adding the Hooks

Next, I attached black hooks—two centered on the square pieces and one near the top of the rectangle piece. These are meant to be more for lightweight items, like keys, jewelry, or small decorative accents, so I just used simple wall-hanging hardware on the back.

Making the Hanging Jar

To make the set even more fun, I repurposed a little yogurt jar I had saved. I primed and painted it black, then used a white color pencil to sketch out a similar floral stencil design as on the wood pieces. Once that was painted in, I tied a narrow black ribbon around the top so it could hang right from the hook on the rectangle piece.

I tucked a little flower inside for a finishing touch, and I love how it pulled the whole look together!

The Finished Look

This project turned out so cute and was such a fun way to use up leftover wood and a few small bits I already had on hand. It adds a touch of handmade charm and personality to the wall—perfect for hanging keys, jewelry, or just as simple decorative wall art.
So next time you’re tempted to toss your scrap wood pile, take another look—you might just see a little inspiration waiting there!
