I had a few small flat glass jars left over from a dessert and didn’t want to throw them away. They seemed like the perfect size for small candles, and since I needed a few more decorations for St. Patrick’s Day, I decided to turn them into festive candles instead.
Making the Candles First

The first thing I did was turn the jars into candles. I already had some clear candle wax on hand, so I melted it and poured it into the jars with candle wicks.
Originally, I planned to color the wax dark green to match my St. Patrick’s Day décor, but since the wax was clear and I didn’t have dye, I decided to just leave it as it was for the moment and work on the jars themselves.
Decorating the Jars
Once the candles were set, I started decorating the outside of the jars.

For some of them, I tried applying dark green paper with Mod Podge to add a little texture. After the paper dried, I painted over it with dark green paint and added some copper accents. The copper really helped elevate the look and gave the jars a nice festive feel.

For the rest of the jars, I decided to skip the paper entirely. Instead, I primed the glass and painted the jars a deep dark green,

then finished them by painting the rims a beautiful copper color.

This method actually turned out a little cleaner and simpler.
Adding Color to the Wax

Since I originally wanted dark green wax, I decided to add a little color to the top. I melted a dark green crayon and lightly brushed the melted wax over the tops of the candles.

This gave the candles a dark green finish on top so they matched the jars and looked great with the rest of my St. Patrick’s Day décor.

The Finished Candles

This was such a fun and simple project. I was able to reuse jars that might have been thrown away and turn them into something decorative and useful at the same time.

Sometimes the best DIY projects come from just using what you already have and getting a little creative!
